Remember the last time your heart was broken?
It’s easy to remember, even though we would rather forget. It’s easy for me to remember because of the emotions and pain that were attached. I do not want to return to that place. Yet, that is what God is asking of us. Not for a broken relationship, disappointment or grief, but to break our hearts for Him.
The brokenness or softening of our hearts opens them to real compassion for the things that truly matter, God’s things. In that space we will encounter genuine joy and a whole, not broken, life.
Don't tear your clothing in your grief, but tear your hearts instead." Return to the LORD your God, for he is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He is eager to relent and not punish. Joel 2:13 NLT
